This guide presents the Interlaken Group’s perspective on a company’s responsibilities to address legacy land issues. It provides direction on how to resolve grievances related to land that may or may not have been the direct result of company actions. In doing so, the guide may also help the company mitigate the potential for future risks and inequities. The overarching approach is to identify and implement negotiated settlements with affected communities that respect their legitimate land rights by returning land or where that is not possible enhance their livelihoods.
