Call for sessions – LANDac Annual Conference 2026. Land, Conflict, and Peace

du 01/07/2026 au 02/07/2026

The LANDac Annual Conference 2026 will take place in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on 1–2 July 2026, followed by a PhD and early-career researchers’ day on 3 July. Organised by LANDac – the Netherlands Land Academy on Land Governance for Equitable and Sustainable Development, the conference focuses on the overarching theme “Land, Conflict and Peace.” It aims to explore the complex and often under-examined relationships between land governance, armed conflict, peacebuilding and humanitarian contexts.

The conference will examine how war, violence and post-conflict transitions reshape land access, tenure rights and territorial governance, both during active conflict and in peace-making and reconstruction phases. Particular attention is given to the political, social and institutional dimensions of land in fragile and conflict-affected settings.

Key themes to be addressed include:

  • Land within the humanitarian–development–peace nexus, and its role in preventing or exacerbating conflict;
  • Everyday politics of land, conflict and peace, focusing on local power relations and practices;
  • Migration, displacement and land rights, including challenges faced by refugees, internally displaced people and host communities;
  • Territory, identity and historical claims, and their influence on land-related conflicts;
  • Geopolitics, dispossession and global competition over land;
  • Climate shocks and environmental change as drivers of land conflicts.

The Call for sessions will close on 12 January 2026. Applicants will be informed on the acceptance of their session by 23 January 2026.
