Since 2014, the Malawi multistakeholder platform on land governance has provided a space for dialogue among stakeholders across government, civil society, academia, private sector, development partners and rights holders. It promotes a multi-sectoral approach to dealing with major land governance and natural resource management issues in the country, following the landmark reforms undertaken by the Malawian government through the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development. These reforms are centred around providing the legal recognition to customary land tenure holders; decentralising land management functions; and providing systematic processes for facilitating land transactions. This case study draws the lessons learned from the platform experience in supporting the development of inclusive policies and local-level policy implementation.
