Living land. Taking a sustainable land management approach in law

This study presents a comprehensive legislative study on how law and policy can support and promote sustainable land management (SLM). It emphasises that SLM is vital for achieving key objectives such as food security, economic development, and climate resilience, while addressing interlinked issues such as urbanisation, biodiversity conservation, and resource extraction. It explores a range of national and international legal frameworks, from constitutions to sectoral laws governing sustainable agriculture, forest management, land tenure, and water, stressing the importance of effective governance, public participation, and gender equality. The text concludes by offering guidance on prioritising legal reforms to coherently integrate SLM principles into existing legal systems.
