The article highlights the crucial importance of pastoral mobility in ensuring land and water security in arid regions. Rangelands cover a large part of the planet and support the livelihoods of millions, yet they are threatened by land degradation, climate change, and unsuitable policies. Livestock mobility, a traditional practice, enables sustainable resource management by distributing grazing pressure, restoring soils, and enhancing biodiversity. However, land restrictions, land conversion, and insecure usage rights limit this mobility. The article calls for integrated policies that recognise the ecological and economic role of pastoralism in strengthening resilience and promoting the sustainability of rural systems.
